The interim Constitution of Palestine should consolidate the geographical and political integrity of the future state, including the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip as a single indivisible territory, Abdel Fattah Al-Dawla, an official representative of the largest Palestinian Fatah faction, told Izvestia.

Earlier, a member of the PLO executive committee, Ahmed Majdalani, told Izvestia that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas had formed a committee to prepare an interim constitution.

"Our position is clear: a single Palestinian state, geographically and politically integrated, including the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip as a single indivisible geographical and political unit. This is confirmed by all relevant international resolutions, and this is what we insist on in this political initiative," Abdel Fattah Al-Dawla explained when discussing the draft of the future constitution.

Al-Dawla stressed that the Palestinian leadership is committed to the UN resolutions, according to which the State of Palestine should be established on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The Gaza Strip is an integral part of the future state, and Palestine cannot exist without it, he added.

"Israeli settlements in the West Bank are a key challenge to the prospects for peace. They constitute a clear violation of international law and Security Council resolutions, including resolution 2334. The cessation of construction and the existence of settlements is the main step towards the implementation of the two—state solution," said the representative of the movement.
