Land Rover dedicated a special SUV to Winston Churchill
Land Rover has introduced a special version of the Defender SUV, which is called the Churchill Edition. It is dedicated to former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and his personal car, the Land Rover Series I. The Defender will have a circulation of 10 copies, the press service of the automaker said.
The Land Rover company presented Churchill with an SUV in 1954 for his 80th birthday. The car was modified specifically for the politician — it was equipped with a wider seat, a folding armrest, a special heater in the cabin and a leather handrail for ease of boarding and disembarking. This car is currently on display in a museum in Switzerland. Land Rover specialists visited him to study the features of the SUV in order to reflect the characteristic features in the special version of the Defender.
The body of the Defender Churchill Edition was painted in Bronze Green, and Churchill's car was made in the same color. The exterior of the car is decorated with UKE 80 stickers, referring to the registration plate of the Prime Minister's SUV. The interior is covered with semi-aniline leather in a shade similar to the original. And on the front panel there is a watch made in the style of Churchill's favorite champagne brand, Pol Roger.
The Churchill Edition is based on the Defender with all body types produced from 2012 to 2016. The cars are equipped with a standard 400 hp V8 engine. The list of improvements to the chassis includes the installation of Bilstein shock absorbers and Eibach springs.
Earlier that day, it was reported that Volkswagen had introduced the second-generation T-Roc crossover for the European market. This is the brand's second most popular model after the Tiguan, with sales exceeding 2 million units in eight years.
