Two eruptions of the Merapi volcano have been recorded on the island of Sumatra in western Indonesia (West Sumatra province). This was announced on August 27 by the Center for Volcanology and Mitigation of Geological Disasters of Indonesia on its website.
According to him, the volcano spewed ash to a height of 800 m above the crater, or 3,691 m above sea level. It is noted that the ash is spreading in a northerly direction.
The ministry urged local residents and tourists to be careful not to approach the crater of the volcano within a radius of 3 km, as well as to use masks to protect the respiratory tract.
Earlier, on August 20, Indonesia recorded a series of four eruptions of the Semeru volcano in the province of East Java in the central part of the country. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 18 mm and a duration of 75 seconds.
