The Berlin Court of Appeal found a 16-year-old teenager guilty of preparing for a terrorist attack at a concert by American singer Taylor Swift in Vienna in 2024 and sentenced him to 1.5 years in prison. The German newspaper Tagesspiegel writes about this on August 26.

According to the Berlin Senate, at that time, another 14-year-old teenager was an adherent of the Islamic State terrorists (IS, a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) and, together with a resident of Austria, planned to commit a terrorist attack.

The convict assisted the Austrian in his preparations, including translating the bomb-making manual from Arabic. In particular, he sent him a video with instructions on how to make an explosive device and helped him establish contact with an ISIS member.

"The Second judicial board for criminal cases <...> has now found the 16-year-old accused guilty of preparing a serious anti-state crime coupled with support for a terrorist attack abroad," the court said.

The hearing was held behind closed doors due to the young man's age. The accused confessed. It is specified that he can appeal the verdict to the federal court within a week.

Last August, The New York Times reported that ISIS was planning to kill a large number of people at Swift's concert in Vienna. Two were arrested before the concert on August 7, and the rest were detained in the following days. Local authorities said that one of the perpetrators, a 19-year-old Austrian, had sworn allegiance to a terrorist organization.

On August 7 of the same year, NBC News announced the cancellation of three Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna as part of the singer's world tour. The measure was taken in connection with a terrorist threat, which subsequently led to the arrest of several men.
