- The media learned about the dismissal of 97 soldiers from the Bundeswehr for extremism in 2024
In 2024, the Bundeswehr removed 97 military personnel from their posts for extremist actions, which included racist statements, Hitler greetings and chanting extremist songs. This was announced on August 25 by the Tagesschau portal.
"The number of incidents related to right-wing extremist movements in the Bundeswehr has increased: in 2024, 97 members of the Bundeswehr were dismissed due to right-wing extremist incidents. In the previous year, there were 62 of them," the publication says.
The article clarified that representatives of the German Federal Ministry of Defense are reviewing a list of 280 alleged offenses, the totality of which is approximately 30% higher than the number of similar incidents in 2023.
It is noted that according to a report by the federal military counterintelligence agency of Germany, which is part of the Bundeswehr, out of 305 cases of offenses, over 200 turned out to be related to right-wing extremism.
Thus, according to the information released, the Ministry expressed serious concern about the dynamics of extremist behavior in the Bundeswehr, the fight against which is one of the main priorities.
On August 19, the CBC television channel learned about the suspension from service of five Canadian Armed Forces (AF) soldiers for Nazi salute. It is noted that in 2023, the suspects, while attending a party, gave Nazi greetings, which was captured on video. The footage was discovered by the Canadian Armed Forces in early August 2025. The agency has launched an inspection, during which soldiers may be disciplined or dismissed from the army altogether.
