The Moscow Regional Court sentenced Carlos Alberto Munoz Ramirez, known in Russia as Carlos, to 19 years in a high-security penal colony with a fine of 900 thousand rubles. This was announced on August 25 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.

Carlos was found guilty of smuggling and sending drugs on an especially large scale, which were committed by an organized group.

Earlier, the Colombian's lawyer asked the court to impose the minimum possible punishment, take into account his client's active cooperation with the investigation and his full admission of guilt.

According to investigators, in July 2016, Carlos led an organized group of four people. The drug dealer and his accomplices smuggled cocaine from Colombia and the Republic of Paraguay with a total weight of more than 3.2 kg to Russia. Mailings with narcotic substances were found at Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo airports.

The cargo from Colombia was in a cardboard box. The substance was hidden in metal springs lying along with the service brakes of diesel engines. The shipment from Paraguay contained microphones, a keyboard piano, and a DJ remote control—the cocaine was hidden inside it.

In November 2017, Carlos was put on the international wanted list, and soon he was detained by Colombian law enforcement officers. In December 2024, the drug dealer was extradited to Russia.

Earlier that day, a court in the Krasnoyarsk Territory sentenced a 66-year-old resident of the Kaliningrad Region, who was detained for attempting to sell large quantities of drugs. The pensioner received eight years in a penal colony. It was noted that the defendant packaged bulk shipments of drugs and organized a network of caches in three regions: the Krasnoyarsk and Altai territories, as well as in the Novosibirsk region.
