Finland must take a neutral position in the Ukrainian conflict in order to begin restoring relations with Russia. This was announced on August 23 by Vladimir Jabarov, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs.

"What they have done now, when they suddenly abruptly joined NATO and began to engage in Russophobic statements, I think that lies on their conscience. If they want to restore relations with our country, let them think that they need to [change] some of their behavior and attitude towards Russia," he said on the air of the Moscow Says radio station.

According to him, to do this, Finland must change its position in the conflict that is currently going on between Russia and Ukraine, and not take an "openly pro-Western, pro-Ukrainian, pro-NATO" position.

"If they behave correctly and with dignity, I think we can respond to these calls of goodwill and start some kind of cooperation," he concluded.

On the same day, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, in an interview with the Yle television and radio company, said that relations between Finland and Russia would be restored after the completion of the special military operation in Ukraine. According to Stubb, Russia and Finland are united by geographical proximity and a common history. That is why the two countries have a common future.
