Sam Altman, the head of OpenAI, and Peter Kyle, the UK Minister of Technology, discussed the possibility of a deal worth up to £2 billion. This was reported by The Guardian newspaper on August 23.

The talks took place in San Francisco as part of a broad discussion on cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence.

According to sources close to the negotiations, the idea was floated, but Kyle didn't take it seriously due to the high cost. Nevertheless, the discussion demonstrates London's desire to strengthen its position in the field of AI.

"Millions of Brits are already using ChatGPT for free. Our goal is to democratize access to artificial intelligence so that as many people as possible can benefit from it," OpenAI said.

In July, the UK and OpenAI signed a memorandum of understanding, opening up the possibility of using the company's technologies in the public sector, including education, defense and healthcare.

Earlier, on August 20, it was reported that shares of US technology companies were falling due to the hype around artificial intelligence. The reason was Altman's statement about the imminent formation of OpenAI and the bursting of the AI bubble.
