The fears of Hungary and Slovakia due to the strikes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the Druzhba oil pipeline are justified, since otherwise there is no way to deliver Russian oil to these countries. This is stated by the leading analyst of the National Energy Security Fund (NWF). Igor Yushkov told on Friday, August 22.

"If they don't get Russian oil, then they will have to buy some other oil. And now, in principle, there is a shortage of medium-sulfur heavy oil in the world, as in Russia, and it is for this that all these oil refining plants were built and are still configured in Hungary, Slovakia, and Serbia. Of course, they won't reconfigure them," the expert explained in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

According to the analyst, in the event of an oil pipeline failure, countries will need to look for the same oil on the world market, which will be a priori more expensive than the Russian one. He explained that raw materials from Russia are currently the most profitable offer.

At the same time, Yushkov noted that both Hungary and Slovakia have instruments of pressure on Ukraine, but Brussels does not allow them to be used. These countries are the largest producers and suppliers of electricity for Kiev. They supply Russian gas there, he added.

"And they even resell petroleum products obtained from this Russian oil to Ukraine. They could have turned it all off. But Brussels forbids them to do this, threatening to stop financing from European funds," the analyst said.

Yushkov noted that Kiev is attacking the oil pipeline not to cut off oil supplies, but to force Russia to some kind of harsh response, in order to indicate later that Russia is allegedly not ready for peace talks.

Earlier in the day, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that the Druzhba oil pipeline, which supplies Russian oil to Hungary and Slovakia, had stopped working again after an attack on its infrastructure located on Russian territory.

He noted that pumping will stop soon, and the scale of the damage is becoming clear, RT reports.

On the same day, it became known that US President Donald Trump told Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban that he was "very angry" over Ukraine's strikes on the Druzhba oil pipeline, through which Hungary receives oil from Russia.
