- Bloomberg reported on the US military's request for almost $1 billion for missile production.
The US Air Force and Navy have requested almost $1 billion for the production of Lockheed Martin's secret AIM-260 missile. This was reported by Bloomberg on August 22.
According to information from budget documents and an official statement, service units have requested almost $1 billion for the 2026 fiscal year, which begins on October 1, to begin production of the classified system.
"The Air Force, which is leading the development of the AIM-260 (Joint Advanced Tactical Missile), has requested $368 million for the first production, plus $300 million in a separate annual "List of Unfunded Priorities" that the military services submit to congressional defense committees. The Navy has requested $301 million," the publication says.
The development of the AIM-260 (Joint Advanced Tactical Missile) lasted for eight years. It should replace the AIM-120 AMRAAM in service. The missile is designed to be deployed on F-22 and F-35 fighter jets. It is also planned to integrate with the F-15 and F-16.
Earlier, on August 2, the US Department of Defense announced that representatives of the Pentagon and RTX Defense Corporation, specializing in the manufacture of aerospace systems, had signed a 20-year contract worth up to $50 billion. It is noted that the production of the requested systems and weapons will be located entirely in the continental United States.
