Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto expressed hope on August 21 that Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump would be able to complete the process of resolving the conflict in Ukraine and would not allow the Europeans to prevent it.

"I hope they don't succeed. I hope that Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin will be able to complete this process leading to a peace agreement, because it is not only in our interests, but also in the interests of the whole world," Szijjarto said on the Harcosok órája podcast.

The head of Hungarian diplomacy noted that in the spring of 2022, when the Russian and Ukrainian sides were close to concluding a peace agreement, European leaders advocating the continuation of the conflict actually banned Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky from signing this agreement.

Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the media activity of the "coalition of the willing" is aimed at undermining the progress made in relations between Russia and the United States after the Alaska talks. He noted that their goal is to divert attention from addressing the root causes of the crisis in Ukraine.
