More than 700 people died in the floods in Pakistan, which resulted from heavy rains in the country. This was reported by the Associated Press (AP) on August 21.

"Since June 26, at least 746 people have died," the article says.

According to the Disaster Management Agency, at least 41 people have died in incidents related to worsening weather conditions over the past 24 hours. Most of them became victims of the natural disaster in the northern Gilgit-Baltistan region, as well as in the city of Karachi.

The National Emergency Management Center clarified that about 100 mm of precipitation is expected over the next day. Such an amount could flood highways, disrupt transport links, and damage energy and telecommunications networks in a number of areas, AP writes.

The day before, Dawn newspaper reported the deaths of eight people in Karachi as a result of heavy rains. It was noted that electricity and Internet were cut off for several hours in some areas, and many houses were flooded.

On August 15, Russian President Vladimir Putin sent condolences to the Pakistani leadership in connection with the tragic consequences of the flood.
