The former prime minister of Moldova pointed to the decade-long stagnation in the country's economy

Over the past 10 years, after failures in all areas of industry and lack of investment, Moldova's economy has collapsed to almost zero levels. This was announced on August 21 by the former Prime Minister of the country, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat.

Thousands of enterprises have been liquidated in the country, industrial and agricultural production facilities have been closed, and employees have lost tens of thousands of jobs, he said.

"2014 was followed by an unprecedented ten-year period of stagnation. The graph clearly shows that small rises in some years were completely offset by dramatic falls in subsequent years," the politician wrote on his Telegram channel.

Over the past decade, there has been almost zero investment growth in the country, and an economy that does not invest is doomed to regression, Filat said. And if Moldova used to have a developed food industry capable of independently providing the domestic market and exports, now the country has turned into a greedy consumer of imported food, he added.

In June, the leader of the Moldovan opposition bloc Pobeda, Ilan Shor, stated that under the guise of simplifying trade procedures with the European Union (EU), Moldova is gradually being absorbed and the country is being deprived of economic independence. He pointed out that as a result of the policy of the current authorities of the republic, the Moldovan economy is being destroyed, and the import of goods is rapidly increasing.

In the same month, the former president of Moldova, the leader of the country's Party of Socialists, Igor Dodon, stressed the negative impact on the republic's economy due to the abandonment of Russian gas.
