Intercity bus trips have become the most dangerous public transport
Intercity transportation by buses and minibuses remains the most dangerous type of public transport. This is evidenced by the statistics of insurance companies' payments, which were reviewed by Izvestia on August 21.
In the years 2024-2025, passengers and their heirs were compensated for almost 31.3 million rubles for injuries sustained in public transport by Rosgosstrakh under the contracts of compulsory insurance of civil liability of carriers (OSGOP). At the same time, 60% of this amount is made up of payments related to incidents on intercity routes.
"The main cause of injuries in urban transport is falling passengers on buses as a result of sudden maneuvers, braking, as well as when opening and closing doors. On intercity routes, where speeds are much higher, passengers are injured as a result of road accidents, which are usually more serious, even fatal," said Andrey Krivenyshev, head of the company's compulsory insurance payments department.
He recalled that the amount of the insurance indemnity under the OSGOP is calculated according to the standards approved by the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 1164, and depends on the nature, degree of damage and localization of the injury.
This year, the minimum payment to a passenger on intercity transportation was 1 thousand rubles for bruises after an accident, the maximum was 781 thousand rubles for a head injury also sustained in an accident. In urban transport, the minimum payment was 81 thousand rubles for hand injuries sustained as a result of sudden braking of the bus, the maximum was 500 thousand rubles for spinal injuries after a fall in the bus cabin.
For the second year in a row, the Pskov Region remains the leader in the number of requests from passengers. In the first half of 2024, the top 3 in this indicator also included the Saratov Region and the Krasnoyarsk Territory, and this year — the Sverdlovsk and Arkhangelsk regions.
Igor Ivanov, Vice President of RESO-Garantia, confirmed that almost all payments under OSGOP are related to accidents in road transport - during transportation by buses.
Maxim Zimin, Head of the Loss Settlement Department for Property and Liability Insurance at Absolut Insurance, noted that this year the maximum payout amount was 540 thousand rubles. Among the unusual cases, a passenger was injured on the ship's deck due to a metal door impact.
In the insurance company "Consent" for the second half of 2024–the first half of 2025, more than 45 million rubles were paid under the OSGOP.
On August 18, the Russian Interior Ministry reported that currently traffic cameras are not used to automatically check CTP policies. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation did not specify when exactly the inspection of the car citizen from the cameras will be launched.
