In preparation for the operation to capture the city of Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) called up 60,000 soldiers from the reserve and extended the service life of 20,000 reservists. This was announced on August 20 by the press service of the Israeli army.

"In preparation for the next stage of Operation Gideon's Chariots, about 60,000 reserve orders were issued this morning," the IDF wrote on its Telegram channel.

It is clarified that the decision to call up reservists was made after analyzing the structure of the reserve forces necessary to continue the fighting, and approved by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz. The press service noted that the IDF appreciates the contribution of reservists to ensuring the security of the state and will continue to work to maintain proper conditions of service and optimal load distribution.

On the same day, it was reported that Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz approved the operation to capture the city of Gaza, it was called "Gideon's Chariots 2." It was clarified that Katz, after approving the plan, stated that "with the completion of the operation, Gaza will change its appearance and will no longer look the way it did in the past."

On August 13, the head of the IDF General Staff, Eyal Zamir, approved the basic concept of the plan for an armed offensive in the Gaza Strip. It was clarified that during the meeting, the actions of the Israeli army were presented, including the attack on the Zeitoun area in Gaza.
