Cheburashka is the most beloved animated character among Russians. The main selection criteria for the audience were the bright personality of the hero and nostalgia for childhood, follows from the study of the Zen information platform. The data was reviewed by Izvestia on August 20.

According to a study by analysts, Cheburashka is the absolute leader in popularity among animated characters among Russians. 18% of the respondents voted for him.

The heroes of the DreamWorks studio, such as Shrek or Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon, are almost as good as the popular favorite character. They took the second place with a score of 17%. The bronze medal of the rating with 14% of the votes was taken by the legendary Russian duo — the Hare and the Wolf from the animated series "Nu, Pogodi!".

The top five also included classic Disney characters (Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and others) with 13%. Matroskin the Cat (9%) and Winnie the Pooh (7%) complete the top leaders.

The study also showed that the main criterion for choosing a favorite for viewers is the bright personality of the character (36%). An interesting plot (30%) and nostalgia for childhood (25%) turned out to be important factors.

The hero's belonging to Russian culture is of great importance to Russians. One in four (26%) prefers Russian characters because of their spiritual and traditional closeness. Another 16% choose them because of nostalgia. At the same time, a third of the respondents (33%) said that they love both domestic and foreign heroes equally.

Interestingly, Russians most often associate themselves with the practical and economical Matroskin Cat — 29% of the survey participants made this choice. In second place in this rating were the characters of "Shrek" (18%), and in third — Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck (16%).

As for genre preferences, the vast majority of viewers (42%) choose light and entertaining comedy cartoons. Fantasy and adventure came in second place (28%), as well as musicals (27%). One in five (20%) watches animation for educational purposes.

The survey also revealed the audience's interest in industry news. Russians are most attracted to information about cartoon creators — their personal lives and new projects (35% and 31%, respectively). Announcements of new seasons and episodes are of interest to 23% of respondents.

Earlier, on January 10, Izvestia got acquainted with a Mediascope study, where the most popular TV channels of 2024 were named. According to the company, the first two positions were retained by the Rossiya 1 TV channel (14%) and NTV (9.5%).
