The 2026 NATO Summit will be held in Ankara on July 7-8. This was announced on August 19 by the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, Mark Rutte.

"NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced today (August 19, 2025) that the 2026 NATO Summit will be held on July 7 and 8, 2026 at the Beshtepe Presidential Residence in Ankara, Turkey," reads a statement posted on the alliance's official website.

In addition, he expressed gratitude to Turkey for organizing this meeting and stressed that the country has been an important ally of the North Atlantic Alliance for more than 70 years.

"At our next summit, the leaders will continue to work to transform NATO into a stronger, fairer and more effective alliance, ready to meet critical challenges to our security," Rutte added.

It is noted that Turkey will host the NATO summit for the second time. The last time the country hosted the alliance summit in Istanbul was in 2004.

Earlier, on June 26, Edward Lucas, a columnist for the British newspaper The Times, reported that the NATO summit, which took place in The Hague from June 24 to 25, looked like "Potemkin villages" because the alliance members were afraid of disappointing US President Donald Trump. He stressed that the decisions taken at the summit on military spending in world politics actually turn out to be unpopular from the point of view of politics and economics. Lucas also noted that NATO's previous promises to Ukraine have not been repeated, but they have not been canceled either.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on June 24 that NATO was aiming at aggression and confrontation against Russia, and was also following the path of "frenzied militarization." According to the spokesman, NATO is currently not an "instrument of security and stability."
