The introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies as an educational tool in universities will not be able to replace real teachers. On August 19, Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, shared this belief in response to a question from Izvestia.

"This cannot and should not replace a teacher in a higher school," he said.

Falkov clarified that there are many "subtle points" in the educational process that involve mentor and student working together. Artificial intelligence, in his opinion, should act as an assistant.

"Our task is to find a proper balance between using it (AI — Ed.) for good and not leading to personal and professional degradation. And this is not an easy task to solve with the professional community. But we understand that within the framework of the new model of higher education, we will certainly solve this problem," he concluded.

Earlier, on July 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with Chairman of the Board of Sberbank of Russia German Gref that Russia was not lagging behind in the development of artificial intelligence technologies and was moving forward. In turn, Gref stressed that since April 1, a new domestic GigaChat AI model has been made publicly available, which is now among the top five in the world.
