Bloomberg reported an increase in purchases of Russian oil by China
Oil refineries in China have increased purchases of Russian Urals crude oil. This was reported by Bloomberg on August 19.
It is clarified that China took the opportunity to purchase a batch of oil at a discount, which India refused, as Washington increases trade duties against New Delhi.
"In August, the supply [to China] of Urals crude oil, which is shipped from the ports of the Baltic and Black Seas, amounted to almost 75 thousand barrels per day. According to Kpler, this is almost twice the average since the beginning of the year, which is about 40 thousand barrels," the publication says.
In addition, refineries in China have already purchased from 10 to 15 shipments of Urals crude oil for delivery in October and November, which exceeds their usual volume of purchases, Bloomberg writes, citing analytical firms Kpler and Energy Aspects.
"Currently, there are at least two Urals oil tankers off the coast of China, each with a capacity of 1 million barrels. It is expected that there will be more in the coming weeks," the agency concludes.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on August 17 that the United States was afraid to punish China with sanctions for refining Russian oil through secondary sanctions, as this could have negative consequences for global energy prices, causing them to rise. According to him, even in this scenario, China will continue to refine Russian oil, which will then enter the world market.
