According to the results of a sociological survey, 72% of Russians feel proud when publicly displaying the national flag. The FEEDBACK research center reported this to Izvestia on August 22, presenting research data on the Day of the National Flag of Russia.

It is clarified that 67% of respondents consider this day significant, and the perception of its importance has not changed over the past year. At the same time, the majority of respondents correctly indicated that the tricolor was adopted during the period of the Russian Empire, and 25% associate it with the current state of Russia.

Among the main associations with the holiday are patriotism (64%), the image of a united nation (41%) and fostering respect for state symbols (36%). At the same time, against the background of these positive responses, young people note the lack of information about Flag Day and suggest using more modern forms of information presentation through videos and social networks.

Russians admitted that they rarely attend events dedicated to this day, most often because of the monotony of such events. The majority of respondents expressed a desire to see not only concerts in the holiday programs, but also historical exhibitions, workshops and other interactive entertainment.

It should be noted that almost half of the respondents (45%) confuse Flag Day with Russia Day, which also reflects the lack of a clear distinction between these holidays. Most of the respondents believe that it would be logical to combine these two events in one day.

Flag Day evokes positive emotions among Russians, especially in moments of national unity. 72% of respondents said they feel proud when displaying the flag in public, especially during sporting events (86%) and international events (81%).

The respondents also shared their opinion about where the Russian flag is appropriate in everyday life. Among the most popular suggestions are the use of the flag in city parks (48%), building lighting (40%) and souvenirs (34%). At the same time, the use of the flag in fashion and product branding (35%) causes dissatisfaction among citizens.

According to the participants of the focus groups, the Russian flag does not have the same symbolic power as, for example, the American flag, which affects its rare use in everyday life. However, most Russians consider it an important symbol of patriotism and state identity.

On June 12, Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Ryzhikov, Alexey Zubritsky and Kirill Peskov, who are on board the International Space Station (ISS), congratulated the Russians on Russia Day. Zubritsky emphasized that the Motherland is not just the place of birth of a person. First of all, it is a place of strength where a person feels connected with the past in his heart and builds a future for his family.
