Spartak Moscow football Club (FC) has surpassed Zenit St. Petersburg in popularity. This is evidenced by the results of the three-week voting conducted by Sport-Express.

More than 300,000 people took part in the survey. The voting results showed 54% against 46% in favor of Spartak.

"Zenit has more victories. Zenit is a multiple champion of Russia in recent years. And, of course, he has added to his fan base. <...> But the ratio is still in favor of Spartak, and I think it will take a long time for it to change in favor of Zenit," says REN TV sports columnist Alexander Kuzmak.

The survey was divided by age category. In the 18-24 year old group, fans voted equally for both teams.

The Spartacists, according to the survey, are popular abroad. The advantage of the red and white army there is one and a half times, and this popularity affects the selection of football players. Foreigners are going to play for the Moscow team.

"I came here, and that's all I need to know about which club I think is the best. This is my decision. It speaks for itself, and Spartak is the best club for me," said Spartak player Jedson Fernandes.

On August 16, Spartak and Zenit played a draw in the fifth round of the Russian Premier League. The meeting at the Lukoil Arena in Moscow ended with a score of 2:2. Forwards Mateo Casserra (15th minute) and Alexander Sobolev (63rd minute) scored goals for the St. Petersburg team. Midfielders Marquinhos (18th) and Jedson Fernandes (38th) scored from Spartak.
