Scammers started calling pensioners under the pretext of replacing digital television. This was announced on August 19 by the Russian Interior Ministry.

The department clarified that an unknown man called the pensioner and informed her about the alleged replacement of digital television. To update the TV network, he requested a text message code.

After that, as noted in the Interior Ministry, the victim received calls from people posing as employees of Roskomnadzor. They claimed that her account on Gosuslugi had been hacked, and a power of attorney had been issued to her bank accounts. Fraudsters convinced pensioners to transfer funds to "new" cards for their safety, but these cards actually belonged to the attackers.

"For the sake of persuasiveness, the fraudster can tell the victim what amounts and in which banks he has," RIA Novosti quotes the text of the message.

Dmitry Morev, Director of Information Security at RuStore, told Izvestia on August 19 that malicious applications are increasingly spreading through short videos on social networks, which is where users most often encounter fake information and links leading to sites with infected APK files.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
