The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case on the terrorist attack after the Ukrainian Armed Forces attack on the Smolensk NPP

After an attempt by a drone of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to attack the Smolensk Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), a case was opened on a terrorist attack involving an encroachment on nuclear power facilities. This was announced on August 18 by the press service of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

"A criminal case has been opened <...> in connection with an attempted attack by armed formations of Ukraine on a nuclear power facility in the city of Desnogorsk, Smolensk region, on August 17, 2025. An unmanned aerial vehicle of an airplane type was suppressed by electronic warfare forces," the department's Telegram channel said.
