The AFD leader accused Merz of political isolation of Germany
The Alaska summit between Russia and the United States without the participation of European leaders showed that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz led Germany into "political isolation." This was announced on August 16 by Alice Weidel, co-chair of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
"The Alaska summit was an important step towards de-escalation. This is how real politics works. He also showed that Merz has driven our country into political isolation," she wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
She added that it was time for Germany to support the US initiative and begin promoting diplomacy and the country's interests.
The meeting between Putin and Trump took place on August 15 in Anchorage, Alaska. At the same time, economist and political analyst Loretta Napoleoni drew attention to the fact that Europe would not be able to support Ukraine for a long time without the United States. According to the analyst, the problem of the European countries of Europe is that Russia is in a more advantageous position.
Meanwhile, on August 14, AFD MP Gunnar Lindemann noted that Merz, like the Europeans in general, does not have the influence that they are trying to demonstrate in Europe and in Germany. According to him, Merz continues to support the Kiev regime and advocates the supply of weapons. At the same time, the deputy noted that the people of Germany no longer want to finance Ukraine and do not support military aid.
