- The police stopped an attempt by the opposition to set up tents at the railway station in Chisinau
Moldovan law enforcement authorities prevented supporters of the Pobeda opposition bloc from setting up tents at the Chisinau railway station. This was reported on August 16 by the Telegram channel Sputnik Moldova.
"The police, who had cordoned off the station ahead of time, used force and have not yet allowed tents to be erected," the article says.
The footage shows that law enforcement officers are twisting and leading away the protesters. Police officers use force techniques and grab the protesters by the neck to take them to the police station.
It is noted that the supporters of the bloc arrived at the Chisinau railway station and began to set up a tent camp to hold a rally in support of the arrested head of Gagauzia, Evgenia Gutsul. Moldovan police officers began to detain the activists without explanation and broke down the tent city.
On August 12, Ilan Shor, the head of the Pobeda opposition bloc, appealed to Moldovan citizens to come out on August 16 for a peaceful protest against the actions of the country's authorities. A day earlier, he also called on Moldovans to come out for an indefinite rally against Moldovan President Maia Sandu and the ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PDS). According to him, many residents of the country are dissatisfied with the policy of the authorities, especially they do not like "overpaying for gas and electricity at times."
