Former Austrian Foreign Minister Kneissl called Putin and Trump's handshake sincere
The first handshake between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump on the runway of the American military base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage looked sincere. This was announced on August 15 by former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl.
"The first handshake looked sincere. It is very useful that Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin speaks English," she wrote on her Telegram channel.
In addition, Kneissl expressed the hope that the meeting of the Russian and American leaders that began in Alaska, as well as their negotiations, will be able to open a new chapter in the relations between their states. She stressed that currently the attention of the whole world is focused on the "small town" where the summit of the Russian Federation and the United States is taking place — "the thoughts of many people are in Alaska now," the politician summed up.
The three-on-three talks between Putin and Trump began in Anchorage at about 11:30 local time (22:30 Moscow time). In addition to the Russian leader, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov are present at the meeting.
Journalist of the BBC TV channel ("BBC") Steve Rosenberg, in an interview with Izvestia on August 15, said that the speed with which the preparation of the negotiations with Putin announced by Trump on August 8 was "unexpectedly" high. This, according to Rosenberg, may indicate the desire of the leaders of Russia and the United States to conclude an agreement on peace in Ukraine.
On the same day, Trump announced his desire to pave the way for a potential deal to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. He noted that this agreement, which "he should not lead," according to the plan, will be agreed upon by Moscow and Kiev.
