- Putin instructed the government to set the statute of limitations on privatization deals
Following the results of the XXVIII St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which took place from July 18 to 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Government of the Russian Federation to amend legislation by December 1 this year to set the statute of limitations for challenging privatization transactions. This is evidenced by a document published on the Kremlin's website on August 14.
"To ensure that amendments are made to the legislation of the Russian Federation providing for the establishment of limitation periods and the procedure for calculating them when challenging privatization transactions," the document says.
It clarifies that the amendments, developed taking into account previously announced instructions, with the participation of leading business associations, should protect the property rights of bona fide acquisitions of property.
On August 14, Putin also, as part of this list of instructions, called on the government to develop mechanisms to ensure support for projects to extract rare metals from subsurface use and production waste. This task should be completed by September 1, 2025.
On April 25, the President of the Russian Federation drew attention to the need to consider the development of the Russian Domestic industry of rare and rare earth metals. He made the corresponding proposal during a meeting on the development of the mining industry.
