- RDCB doctors have completely restored the nose of a child who suffered from husky bites
Specialists were able to completely restore the nose of a nine-year-old boy, Valentin Korolev, who was attacked by two huskies in Sochi. As reported on August 15 at the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital (RDKB) The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, the doctors successfully performed the operation, which completed a large-scale stage of reconstructive treatment.
"We operated on a child who was injured as a result of a dog attack. Nose repair is a long, multicomponent story. These are several surgical procedures for the reconstruction and restoration of the external nose. Now we have completed the final stage, the flap has taken root, and we can say that now the child has a nose," said Anton Narbutov, Ph.D., head of the Department of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at the RCB.
The surgeon clarified that the treatment consisted of several operations. A skin flap applied to the nose was previously formed on the patient's forehead, and after that it did not cause rejection. He added that the boy feels well and is recovering. His parents are in the ward with him. In the future, he will need surgical lip reconstruction and aesthetic interventions.
Valentin receives all medical care, including high-tech and surgical treatment, from the RDCB as part of the compulsory medical insurance (CHI) program.
The child's father told Izvestia on May 19 that it would take several years for his son's face to fully recover. According to him, the boy is steadfast and psychologically tolerates the incident normally. Psychologists work with him once a week.
An attack by two huskies on a nine-year-old child took place in Sochi on February 26. The dogs were unattended by the owner, they were driven away from the boy by passers-by. On March 4, surgeon Alexey Dikarev announced that the boy needed to have a reconstruction of his mouth, lips, cheeks and nose.
On May 19, the court sentenced Roman Tsygankov, the owner of the dogs, to 1 year and 6 months of restriction of freedom. It was established that Tsygankov left the dogs on the territory of the household without feeding, watering or supervision, he himself did not actually live there. As a result, the dogs broke loose and attacked the child.
