Russians have become more likely to repair popular used cars

Owners of Lada Vesta, Volkswagen Polo and Hyundai Solaris began to apply for repairs 13% more often than in 2024. The cost of maintenance work has also increased, according to the joint study "Auto.<url>" and the international network of Fit Service car services, which was reviewed by Izvestia on August 14.

The objects of the study were popular used cars — Lada Vesta, Volkswagen Polo, Lada Kalina, Lada/VAZ 2114, Kia Rio, Ford Focus, Hyundai Solaris, Lada Priora, Lada Granta, Skoda Octavia. The average age of these models is increasing every year, reaching 9.9 years in 2025. At the same time, the average mileage increased by 14% from 2023 to 2025: from 137,774 km to 156,407 km. All this suggests that Russians are in no hurry to sell their cars, <url> explained.

According to Fit Service, in the second quarter of 2025, among the top 10 models, the number of repair requests from owners of Volkswagen Polo increased the most (an increase of 35% quarter-on-quarter), Kia Rio (+13%), Lada Granta (+14%) and Lada Vesta (+20%). At the same time, in July of this year, the number of visits to car service stations by these cars increased by 13% compared to the same period in 2024.

The average receipts for repairs and maintenance for all top-10 models have become higher. Lada Kalina (+37.74%), Skoda Octavia (+34.01%) and Lada Priora (+30.76%) have the most significant increase in the average check.

"The cost of repairs and maintenance is increasing not only because of inflation and the rise in the cost of spare parts, but also because cars are getting older and complex and time-consuming repairs are increasingly required. Now many car owners simply do not have the opportunity to buy a new car, so the age-old fleet is forced to be maintained in good condition by investing in extensive repairs. This affects the growth of average receipts in the services," said Tatiana Ovchinnikova, Director of Fit Service.

In addition to standard maintenance, users often handle minor repairs to the undercarriage. Next in popularity are repairs to the steering, fuel system, heating and air conditioning, as well as the engine, braking system and electrical equipment.

Earlier, on August 5, Alexey Tikhomirov, General Director of Lada-Image JSC, said that counterfeit auto parts pose a serious threat to the safety of drivers and passengers. They can lead to the failure of warranty repairs and legal consequences. According to the expert, original products are usually equipped with holograms, QR codes and serial numbers. The difference from the corporate identity, distortion of fonts and colors may also indicate forgery.
