Chinese exporters began to supply used cars to Russia
Exporters of electric vehicles and hybrids from China are switching to supplying used cars to Russia. This was reported on August 13 by the Chinese edition of Yicai Global.
According to Wang Xianyu, CEO of Yiwei New Energy Technology, a Chinese car exporter, used car exports from China to Russia have grown significantly since the second half of last year, generating a profit of about $1-1.5 thousand per car. Some rarer models can make a profit of up to 20-30 thousand yuan ($2,785-4,175).
It is noted that the reason for the transition was the oversaturation of the market with new cars and fierce competition between manufacturers. The exporter believes that the reason for the growing demand for used cars in Russia is also a decrease in purchasing power. Another reason may be the recycling rate, which is significantly lower for used cars.
Wang Xianyu's company has already adjusted its export structure: used cars account for 70% of total shipments to Russia. According to the BitAuto website, exports of Chinese cars to Russia in the first half of this year decreased by 59% to 171 thousand units compared to the same period last year.
Previously, Auto analysts.<url> Business reported that in the first half of the year, the share of cars with mileage of over 5 million rubles from dealers showed a noticeable increase. The Chinese premium brands showed the greatest dynamics. In "Auto.<url> Business also noted the growth of offers in the segment of used premium cars from authorized dealers. German cars retained their dominant position: their share reached 67%, which is 3 percentage points higher than in the same period of 2024.
