The Russian Foreign Ministry pointed to the sabotage of the peace efforts of Russia and the United States by the European Union.

The consultations requested by the Europeans before the summit of the Russian Federation and the United States are politically and practically insignificant, and the European Union (EU) is actually sabotaging efforts for a peaceful settlement on the part of Russia and the United States. This was announced on August 13 by Alexey Fadeev, Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"The Europeans verbally support the diplomatic efforts of Washington and Moscow to resolve the crisis over Ukraine. In fact, the European Union is sabotaging," Fadeev said at a briefing.

The deputy Head of the department also noted that the EU's rhetoric about ostensible support for a peaceful settlement is only an attempt to delay the process. He stressed that regardless of the results of the Russian-American meeting, the European Union will continue to support Kiev with weapons and finances, as well as increase sanctions pressure on Russia.
