- The orientalist pointed out the absurdity of the West's demands for Iran's nuclear program
The statements of the Eurotroika countries about their readiness to launch a mechanism for restoring sanctions against Iran if it does not resume negotiations with the United States on its nuclear program by the end of August look not only absurd, but also contradictory. Sergey Balmasov, an expert at the Institute of the Middle East and an expert at the Russian International Affairs Council, told Izvestia on August 13.
He stressed that Iran's actions in this situation are more justified than the approach of the European Union, which, in his opinion, demonstrates "complete lack of independence." Balmasov believes that Tehran should use the time to strengthen its military potential rather than succumb to Western demands.
"Iran needs to buy time to restore its combat potential in anticipation of the next round of confrontation. The enemy needs to talk their teeth out as much as possible, conclude any agreements that would delay the war, but not bring the strikes closer," the expert said.
As for the possibility of resuming negotiations between the United States and Iran, he believes that there is a chance of concluding a deal with the West that could weaken the unity of Western countries on issues related to Ukraine.
"Iran has the same chance with Russian help. The question is whether the Iranians are able to use their existing contacts with Russia and opportunities," Balmasov explained.
The orientalist also added that American President Donald Trump is interested in major contracts not only with the United States, but also with other countries, including the Persian Gulf states.
The Financial Times (FT) newspaper reported on August 13 that France, Britain and Germany expressed their readiness to re-impose sanctions against Iran if the Islamic Republic does not resume negotiations with the international community on its nuclear doctrine. The Iranian side did not respond in any way to the message about a possible extension of restrictions.
