The head of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Eyal Zamir, approved the basic concept of the plan for an armed offensive in the Gaza Strip. This was announced on August 13 by the army's press service.

"Eyal Zamir held a meeting today (Wednesday) at which he approved the basic principles of the IDF's operational plan in the Gaza Strip," the IDF Telegram channel said.

It is clarified that during the meeting, the actions of the Israeli army to date were presented, including the attack on the Zeitoun area in Gaza on Tuesday, August 12. The basic concept of the plan for the Gaza Strip was also approved. In addition, the head of the IDF General Staff stressed that it is now very important to increase the combat readiness of troops.

On August 8, the Israeli Security Cabinet approved Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's decision to occupy Gaza. The next day, thousands of people protested in Tel Aviv against the Israeli Prime minister's plan to seize the Gaza Strip.

On August 10, Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump discussed plans to capture the remaining Hamas strongholds in the Gaza Strip. The disarmament of the Palestinian movement, the release of hostages, the transfer of security control in the region to Tel Aviv and the creation of an "alternative civilian administration" in the sector are planned.
