- The United States advised Zelensky to agree to a deal after the meeting between Putin and Trump
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky must agree to a deal following a meeting between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, which will be held on August 15 in Alaska. This was announced on August 12 by the American Thinker (AT) magazine.
"It would be wise for Vladimir Zelensky to reduce his losses and accept any peace proposal that President Trump presents at the upcoming talks in Alaska this Friday. Whatever this offer is, it is better than the inevitable destruction," the article says.
The observer also pointed out that Zelensky's refusal to cede territory was due to his unwillingness to lose power.
"He [Zelensky] will also have to make sure that any promises of support from European countries will bring little, if any, benefit," the publication concluded.
On the same day, The Telegraph newspaper reported that for the sake of resolving the conflict, Ukraine may give up the lost territories. According to the publication, Kiev will only agree to a settlement that provides reliable security guarantees in the form of arms supplies and a path to NATO membership.
On August 11, US President Donald Trump expressed dissatisfaction with Zelensky's statements that he would need constitutional approval on territorial issues. He also stressed that 88% of Ukrainians, according to polls in the country, want to conclude a peace deal with Russia.
