Scammers have come up with a new two-step scheme to deceive Russians with a call from an alleged courier and an employee of Roskomnadzor. This was reported in the department on August 12.

"Since the beginning of this year, fraudsters have been actively using a new multi—stage scheme of deception with calls from the alleged delivery service and Roskomnadzor," RIA Novosti news agency quoted the agency as saying.

It is clarified that the scammers first call allegedly from the flower delivery service, demanding an SMS code to confirm the order. After that, the conversation is interrupted by a call from an imaginary Roskomnadzor employee, who warns against communicating with a fake delivery service.

Later, the victim is contacted again under the guise of department employees and informed about the allegedly stolen personal data.

"In addition, for credibility, the victim is allegedly transferred to employees of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, Rosfinmonitoring or law enforcement agencies. Under various pretexts, fraudsters force the victim to apply for a loan and transfer money to a "secure account," Roskomnadzor added.

On August 7, the Interior Ministry warned that fraudsters were sending fake letters to Russians from the State Traffic Inspectorate, through which they steal bank card data or install malicious software on devices. According to the agency, the victim receives a message via e-mail or messenger about an alleged traffic violation and the need to pay a fine before the due date. A PDF file is attached to the letter, issued under an official decree.
