Russia and Brazil sign memorandum on economic cooperation
Brazil and Russia have signed a memorandum on strengthening economic cooperation amid threats from the United States to impose secondary sanctions against Rio de Janeiro for continuing trade relations with Moscow. This was reported on August 11 by CNN Brazil with reference to the Brazilian government bulletin.
It is specified that this memorandum should contribute to the establishment of a regular bilateral dialogue between the states in the fields of macroeconomic policy, economic issues, tax cooperation, financing of various infrastructures, as well as strengthening multilateral cooperation within the framework of BRICS and G20.
In addition, the parties agreed to use the principles of "equality, mutual trust and benefit," as well as "justice and respect for sovereignty."
Brazil has also signed a memorandum of economic cooperation with China. This initiative will allow States to establish strategic cooperation between them.
On August 9, the Kremlin's press service reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The heads of state confirmed their mutual commitment to further strengthening Russian-Brazilian relations.
