One police officer was killed and another was injured while detaining an arsonist at a railway station in the Arkhangelsk region. This was announced on August 10 by the press service of the regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.

According to investigators, earlier that day, three policemen arrived at the place of residence of a 47-year-old resident of Konoshsky district, who is suspected of setting fire to equipment at the railway station.

"The suspect, wishing to obstruct the legitimate activities of government officials, fired at least two shots from a firearm, mortally wounding one of them and injuring the leg of the second policeman," the Telegram channel says.

The man was detained. Work is currently underway to establish all the circumstances of the incident. A criminal case has been opened against a resident of Konoshsky district under Article 317 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer in order to obstruct legitimate activities to protect public order and ensure public safety").

According to the SU of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Arkhangelsk region, the investigation intends to apply for a preventive measure in the form of detention against the detainee.

Earlier, on July 4, an unknown assaulted a law enforcement officer in Nalchik. The man ran up to the policeman and stabbed him a series of times. As a result, the victim fell into a road pit where repairs were carried out. The attacker has been eliminated. A criminal case has been opened on the fact of an attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer.
