The leader of the French Patriots party, Florian Philippot, called on official Paris to stop financing Ukraine and supplying weapons. He stated this on August 9, commenting on the planned summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump in Alaska.

"France must stop financing and arming Ukraine and join this incredible movement for peace!" Philippot wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

He also added that "paramilitary fanatics, neoconservatives and eurobalbes", having heard about the plans of the leaders of Russia and the United States to hold a summit, are now in complete disarray.

On the same day, Philippot pointed out that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky was looking for excuses to abandon a possible peace agreement even before the meeting between Putin and Trump took place. In his opinion, Zelensky needs the continuation of the conflict in order to remain in power, and the peace agreement "does not interest him at all."

On August 8, Trump announced a meeting with Putin in Alaska on August 15. He noted that details about the upcoming negotiations will be published later. Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov called the choice of a venue for negotiations logical. The US President expressed confidence in the possibility of signing a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine in the coming months. In this regard, Trump stated the need for territorial concessions from both sides.
