Dmitriev commented on the choice of Alaska for a meeting between Putin and Trump

Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of Russia for Cooperation with Foreign Countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), on August 8 commented on the choice of Alaska as a venue for talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump on August 15.

"Born as a Russian America — Orthodox roots, forts, fur trade — Alaska echoes these ties and makes the United States an Arctic country," Dmitriev wrote on the social network X.

He also invited the countries to be partners on environmental, infrastructure and energy issues in the Arctic.

On August 8, Trump announced a meeting with Putin in Alaska on August 15. The US president noted that details about the upcoming negotiations will be published later. Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov called the choice of a venue for negotiations logical. He said that the economic interests of the states intersect in the region. There are prospects for joint projects in Alaska.

The leader of the United States also expressed confidence in the possibility of signing a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine in the coming months. Commenting on this issue, Trump stated the need for territorial concessions from both sides.

On August 7, Trump announced possible negotiations between the United States and Russia without a meeting between Putin and Zelensky. Trump added that the deadline he set for resolving the conflict in Ukraine depends on Russia's actions.

On the same day, Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov announced that Russia and the United States had agreed on a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump in the coming days. He noted that the parties have already started working out agreements on negotiations between the two leaders.

On August 6, Trump said during a speech in the Oval Office of the White House that there were good prospects for a meeting with Putin. In addition, he expressed hope for an early meeting between Putin and Zelensky.
