Socially significant diseases are responsible for about 80% of deaths in Russia. This was announced on August 8 by Roman Gorenkov, chief specialist of the Ministry of Health of the Moscow Region for general medical practice.

"In Russia, about 80% of all deaths are caused by socially significant diseases. The key risk factors for their development are hypertension, elevated total cholesterol and smoking," he told the TASS news agency.
