A wildfire in France has killed at least one person.
The largest fire this summer in France in 24 hours covered more than 16 thousand hectares of vegetation in the Aude region, and at least one person died as a result of the natural disaster. This was announced on August 7 by BFMTV.
"One resident was killed, 13 people were injured, including two civilians and 11 firefighters. Two of them are in critical condition. At the moment, relatives are reporting three missing persons," the Aude Prefecture confirmed.
It is specified that the fire destroyed or damaged 25 houses and 35 cars. According to Christophe Magny, the head of the Aude fire department, the fire is spreading more slowly, and he hopes that the fire will be "localized during the day."
The newspaper Le Parisien reported on August 6 that a forest fire in the Aude department in southern France, which engulfed 15,000 hectares in less than a day, has become the largest in the republic for at least the last 20 years. This pace was helped by strong wind gusts on Tuesday evening, some of them reaching 60 km/h, as well as dryness on the ground and humidity levels of less than 25%.
