- WP reported on the US softening of human rights criticism of Russia, Israel and El Salvador
State Department (Department of State) The United States intends to soften human rights criticism against El Salvador, Israel and Russia. This was reported on August 6 by The Washington Post (WP) newspaper with reference to the draft documents.
"The draft reports on human rights in El Salvador, Israel and Russia <...> are significantly shorter than those prepared last year by the Biden administration," the publication says.
It is noted that the draft, which was prepared for Israel, was reduced by 75% — the report began to contain only 25 pages instead of 100, which were in the previous report. The draft report on El Salvador states that there were no reliable reports of significant human rights violations in the country in 2024. At the same time, in the previous report, El Salvador allegedly had serious human rights violations. And in the Russian draft, all claims about non-recognition of people of non-traditional orientation have been removed (the LGBT movement is recognized as extremist in Russia).
According to WP, the projects for El Salvador and Russia are marked as "finalized," while the projects for Israel are marked as "quality control."
Earlier, on June 23, the United States reported on the State Department's pressure on European countries because of freedom of speech. It is noted that the American delegation visited Paris and London at the end of May to insist on a new priority in the administration of US President Donald Trump — the lifting of European restrictions, in particular, on the freedom of speech of representatives of right-wing movements.
