Alexander Grishin was born in 1978. Since childhood, the future commentator was fond of football, and showed interest in other sports. At the age of eight, he started gymnastics at the CSKA Sports school in Moscow. Later, he joined the diving section, but did not manage to achieve significant victories in this field — the team was disbanded. Nevertheless, Grishin remained a devoted fan of the capital's club throughout his life.

"I've been a horse for over 30 years! It sounds proud to me. <...> Until now, only red and blue colors exist for me in sports," the journalist said in an interview with the CSKA press center.

After high school, Grishin entered the Moscow State Technological University "MAMI", studied in the specialty "Technology and automation of mechanical engineering". However, he did not work by profession, as he became interested in television journalism. As Grishin wrote on his blog, he appeared on television "thanks to a happy accident, overcoming his own modesty," as well as a street meeting with sports journalist Dmitry Fedorov — they later worked together on the 7TV channel.

According to Grishin, he started his career in television late — at the age of 24. From 2002 to 2004, he worked for the 7TV channel. After its closure, he moved to the Sport TV channel (from 2010 to 2015, Russia-2). In 2015-2018, he was a commentator for the Match TV channel. Later he became an employee of Channel One.

Grishin was remembered by fans of a wide variety of sports — he commented on football, weightlifting, cycling, synchronized swimming, diving and much more. His voice was heard at six Olympic Games (in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016), as well as at four European Football Championships. He also became the first Russian commentator to conduct an online dialogue with fans during the broadcast.

However, Grishin gained his greatest fame as a figure skating commentator. Over the years, he has covered the World and European Championships, including with Honored coach of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova and two-time Olympic champion Maxim Trankov. Most often, the journalist commented while standing at the ice rink.

"I love being at the rink, because it's almost impossible to convey the atmosphere of the competition from any commentary studio, whether it's dusty or state-of-the-art. What you can see at the stadium is almost never seen on TV," Grishin admitted.

The commentator has twice received nominations for the Voice of Sport award. In 2018 — in the category "Best commentator of the Olympic Games", and in 2022 - in the categories "Best sports commentator according to the sports media" and "Best pair reportage".
