In summer, people are often faced with a choice: go to a sandy beach or a pebble beach? Sometimes they don't think about the fact that these two types of beaches differ in terms of the risk of infection and the spread of bacterial and fungal infections. About this on August 5, "Gazeta.Ru" was told by Maria Zolotareva, Senior lecturer at the Department of Biotechnology and Industrial Pharmacy at RTU MIREA.

According to the expert, the pebble beach is less susceptible to pollution, unlike the sandy one.

"Sandy beaches are a porous environment capable of retaining organic pollutants. <...> Fine sand particles create favorable conditions for the reproduction of bacteria such as E. coli, Staphylococcus and enterococcus," Zolotareva explained.

At the same time, a pebble beach is 30-40% cleaner, since pebbles do not create conditions for long-term retention of moisture and organic residues necessary for the development of pathogenic flora.

Despite this, it is important to understand that any beach is a source of infections if it is polluted. Therefore, according to the expert, it is necessary to relax in equipped recreation areas and wear beach shoes. Do not forget about following the rules of personal hygiene.

Earlier, on August 2, Natalia Mikhailova, a dermatovenerologist, cosmetologist, and creator of the MESALTERA by Dr. Mikhailova brand of professional cosmeceuticals, told how to choose the right sunscreen. According to the expert, it is important that the product is suitable for the type and condition of the skin. It should not cause irritation, itching, burning, or discomfort.
