- Rutte called on NATO to supply military equipment to Ukraine following the example of the Netherlands
On August 4, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte called on the alliance's member countries to supply military equipment to Ukraine, having previously purchased it from the United States. At the same time, he cited the Netherlands as an example.
"It's nice to see that the Netherlands has taken the initiative and funded the first batch of American military equipment for Ukraine," he wrote on the social network X.
Rutte also thanked the allies for providing military assistance to Ukraine. He noted that he was waiting for further proposals from NATO countries.
Earlier in the day, the Netherlands was the first NATO country to supply Ukraine with U.S.-made weapons worth €500 million as part of a new initiative. It is noted that spare parts and missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) will be supplied to Kiev.
On July 21, Rutte called on European leaders to purchase military equipment from the United States to provide for Ukrainian military personnel. It is clarified that many members of the North Atlantic Alliance are already interested in implementing the proposal. In addition, the statement noted that such actions will be coordinated by NATO.
