The European Union (EU) has shown weakness in trade negotiations with the United States and has received unsatisfactory trade conditions. This was announced on August 4 by German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil.

"I think we (the Europeans. — Ed.) were too weak, we cannot be satisfied with the result achieved," Bloomberg quoted him as saying.

He added that the EU must become stronger in order to be able to negotiate on equal terms with the United States.

The United States and the EU agreed on a trade deal on July 27. European countries remain with 15 percent tariffs on most of their exports, including cars. In addition, the EU agreed to purchase $750 billion worth of American energy resources and invest another $600 billion in the US economy.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on July 30 that the EU's commitment to U.S. energy purchases, which is part of the Brussels-Washington trade agreement, undermines the economic sovereignty of its members. She noted that the EU literally stripped naked, taking off the latter.
