A criminal case has been opened in the Krasnodar Territory over the collapse of a bridge in the village of Lermontovo. This was reported on August 4 by the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation.

According to the Investigative Committee, citing information from local media, as a result of the collapse of the automobile bridge over the Shapsukho River, more than 300 residents of Lermontovo were actually isolated. At the same time, the villagers have been complaining to various authorities about the improper maintenance of the structure for several years, but no repairs have been carried out.

A criminal case has been opened into the incident, and the head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, has instructed to submit a report on the progress and results of the investigation.

On August 3, a bridge collapsed due to bad weather in the village of Lermontovo in the Tuapse Municipal District of the Krasnodar Territory. The governor of the Krasnodar Territory, Veniamin Kondratiev, noted that the bridge was in disrepair, it was washed away by water as a result of rising water levels in rivers after heavy rains.
