On August 16 and 17, a "Good Weekend" will be held in Moscow — an event dedicated to the World Day of Homeless Animals will be held in the park along Olonetsky Passage. This was announced by the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin.

According to him, during the campaign "it will be possible to get acquainted with animals from Moscow shelters and, if desired, pick up a furry friend." Those who are not ready to take a pet yet "will be offered to support those in need using the service on mos.ru or buy handmade goods at a charity fair," the mayor wrote on his Telegram channel.

In addition, family workshops, a quest with prizes and a charity test "Crossroads of Solutions" will be organized as part of the "Good Weekend".

Russians have recently increased spending on pet supplies. According to data from the Post Bank, which was reviewed by Izvestia at the end of April, these expenses have increased by 34% since the beginning of the year compared to the same period in 2024. The number of transactions increased by 28%, and the average receipt increased by 5%, to 731 rubles. The expenses of Russians in veterinary clinics also increased by 7%.

According to the bank's experts, the increase in spending is due to rising prices in this market segment, including higher prices for foreign drugs, vaccines and premium feeds. At the same time, women are more likely to make decisions about pet purchases, food types, and vaccines, so their share is higher among buyers.
