NYT announced India's intention to continue buying Russian oil
The Indian authorities will continue to purchase oil from Russia, despite the threat of sanctions from US President Donald Trump. This was reported on August 2 by The New York Times (NYT), citing sources.
"Two senior Indian officials said that the policy has not changed. One of them stated that the government "did not give any instructions to oil companies" about reducing imports from Russia," the publication notes.
According to the NYT, Russia provides more than a third of oil imports to India, which is the second largest importer of Russian energy after China.
It clarifies that Trump's threats may be a negotiating tactic when India and the United States are trying to conclude a trade agreement.
On August 1, Trump announced India's intention to stop buying oil from Russia. According to him, India will stop importing Russian oil in order to reach a trade deal with the United States.
