Nutritionist Anton Polyakov told how much watermelon you can eat per day without harm to your health.

In conversation with aif.ru On Friday, August 1, the specialist noted that, on average, a person is recommended to eat no more than 400-500 grams of watermelon per day. According to him, the permissible amount of watermelon in the diet depends on its quality, in particular, on the content of nitrites and other harmful substances. If watermelon is good and safe, without harmful impurities, then you can eat an average of about 500 g per day.

Given the watery structure of the berry, 400-500 g of fruits and berries per day is considered a safe norm. It is specified that one slice of watermelon weighs about 150 g, which means that a safe daily serving is 3-4 large slices.

Earlier that day, nutritionist Elena Solomatina explained that watermelon has a high glycemic index, so if consumed excessively, it can contribute to weight gain. Cherries and grapes also contribute to an increase in blood glucose levels, RT reports.

Also on August 1, gastroenterologist Andrey Kharitonov in an interview with the website kp.ru dispelled the myth of an enlarged stomach due to overeating. According to him, the stomach will not stretch if you overeat watermelon or sweet cherries. Overeating is more often associated with eating disorders and stress reactions, notes 360.ru .

On July 27, it was reported that Russia provides itself with watermelons and melons by more than 90%. China supplies some melons, but mainly to the Far East, where local production is less developed, IA Regnum reports.

On July 22, the Moscow 24 TV channel reminded what to look for when buying a watermelon. It is important that the berry has a dry "tail", and when tapping it should make a dull sound.

On July 17, nutritionist Elena Sviridova named ways to check watermelons and melons before buying. In particular, the brilliance of the watermelon indicates its immaturity.

On July 15, farmer Stepan Lesnichin said that early watermelons in Russia can be bought as early as July. According to the expert, the ripening time of watermelons depends on the weather. In Astrakhan, for example, this year the season started later — on July 10 due to the cold and rainy May, writes NSN.

In June, expert Elena Pavlova recommended paying attention to the smell of melon when buying. In an interview with the Moscow city News agency, she noted that the fragrance should be sweet, without the smell of mold. The specialist urged not to buy cut fruits. The shelf life of sliced watermelon or melon in the refrigerator is no more than 12 hours.
